Q:
Hello my name is Shelby. My parents put braces on my teeth back when I was 11 yrs old. my teeth were perfect. After a few years they were removed and I was given retainers which I never wore. As the years went by I had two wisdom teeth removed and as a result my teeth shifted leaving me with a gap. I chipped my front and my dentist at the time shaved it down and placed a temporary crown over it. Its been so many years I don't remember. The crown is now yellow and now I have buck teeth. I am embarrassed at my smile. I love to laugh and always keep my mouth slightly closed or cover it with my hand in embarrassment someone will see my teeth. I am engaged and won't marry until I have a smile I am proud of. My teeth are yellow as a lack of caring. I believe my problem are the first three teeth in front. I have become extremely insecure. I come from a large family and out of everyone I am the only one with the bad teeth. Can you help me?

A:
Hi Shelby,
Thank you for contacting us and for sending photos. Unfortunately your problem is not a simple one to take care of. Your teeth – both top and bottom teeth - have moved way out of position and need to be placed back – if possible. This means orthodontic treatment. But the question is why the teeth have moved. You may have a tongue thrust or you may have gum disease, or both. You need to have a complete set of xrays taken and a complete dental exam to see what can be done to help you. There is no easy solution for you to have a beautiful smile. Let us know if we can be of further help.

Q:
Do you accept any forms of dental insurance and if yes what kind?

Thank you,

Robert N

A:
Hi Robert,
Thank you for contacting my office. There is a large range of insurance plans. Some are better than others. What insurance plan do you have? We try to maximize your insurance benefits but it depends
on the type of plan you have. Please call us at 751-4433 and we will try to be of more help.

Q:
I need help. I've been told that the crowns I have on top are failing. In addition I have two implants left in the front not holding anything as the teeth came out. They are currently glued in. I am at a loss at what to do. This has been going on for 10 years, and everything that has been done has failed and all I'm being told is spend another $40,000 for implants again. If they didn't work the 1st time, why are they going to work now, and of course there are no guarantees. I just feel I am too young for dentures. I guess after venting, I basically do not know what to do. Thanks for listening.

A:
Hi Cindy,
Thanks for contacting me about your dental problems. Can you come in for a consult? Then I can see what I can do to help you. It sounds like you could use some good dentistry.

Q:
I am online searching for an answer as to whether or not it is possible to whiten false teeth. I came across your website and decided to ask you this question. I have a bonded false tooth in the front of my mouth that has gotten progressively darker over the past few years. It is unsightly in pictures and I would really like it to match the rest of my teeth. Is there anything I can do for this?

Dahlia

A:
Hi Dahlia,
Thank you for your email question. It sounds like you have a tooth that is covered with composite bonding. Composite bonding will darken or discolor in time. But a porcelain veneer will not discolor. You should have the composite bonding replaced with a porcelain veneer which is long lasting. If you would like to come in for a complimentary consultation, I’ll be happy to see what I can do to help you.

Sincerely,
Terry S. Shapiro, D.M.D.
